Our Story

Dr. Herbert Dawkins and Dr. Barbara Dawkins: A Couple Born to Serve My life's journey is a testament to a divine calling that began in the 1970s. It was then that I was ordained as a minister, embarking on a path of service with the Jamaica Christian Mission. My ministry was a blessed one, allowing me to serve various churches across the island of Jamaica, with a special place in my heart for the years spent at the Mocho Church of Christ in Clarendon and the Scott Pass Church of Christ in Manchester. For over fourdecades, my wife and partner in faith stood faithfully by my side, a true blessing in our shared ministry. Our journey continued when we were called to the United States. We did not wait for the church to find us; instead, our duty was to seek out and connect with our faith community. After prayerful consideration and visiting various congregations, the Lord guided us to Silver Star Christian Church over 25 years ago. This was a path laid out for us by His grace, with my wife's as a coworker playing a pivotal role in leading us to our new spiritual home. Before being called to the role of Lead Pastor, I was blessed with the opportunity to serve in various capacities, including treasurer, elder, and Sunday school teacher—each role a sacred trust. Beyond our work within the church community, both us have been called to serve as educators, a mission we have pursued for over 40 years, helping to shape and guide the next generation.
To solidify our love and shared purpose, God has blessed us with four wonderful sons, two excellent daughters-in-law, and a bustling family of grandchildren. They are a testament to His abundant grace and the greatest joy of our lives. Our lives, truly together, is one that was born to serve.
